"MOIST" Memorial Day | My Bud Peter Rauhofer | We're Showing our Pride this June!

Hi boys, sorry I've been neglecting you the past couple of weeks. Believe it or not, the server issues that were preventing me from updating my site, persist - and its not just me, its everyone on the platform the site resides on. So, I decided to resolve the situation myself, and I'm going to move the site to a different platform, however doing so requires me to completely rebuild the site. Since that is the case, I don't want to go through an exorbitant amount of work just to get things back to the same level they already are, so I'm taking advantage of the opportunity to implement some long overdue upgrades that will make the site bigger and better than it already is.

Things to look forward to?

**A totally new look, that's easy on the eyes, laid out thoughtfully with convenience and quickness in mind, utilizes a simplified and standardized download process, and a BIG surprise we're not ready to announce... YET!

**A streamlined update process for myself, so I can get more out in less time, which should translate into freed up capacity to actually read and respond to all of your emails, devote the necessary attention to our sponsors and partners, execution of events produced by Circuit Cadence, booking DJs for events, (just for starters).

**An interactive feature that will allow DJs to post their new sets directly for users to download, without my involvement, so you'll get their latest works first, regardless of my personal ability to respond to the submission.

**And OH SO MUCH MORE!!!

This is obviously very exciting and will be a significant milestone in the incredible life that the site has already experienced, but all of these features not only require my time to author, but doing so involves the implementation of an entirely new scripting language that I am learning for the very first time. To make a long story short, don't let the lack of updates of late be an indication of the sites continued commitment to being the best place to get circuit music, because behind the scenes its actually that very commitment that is driving some big and exciting changes soon to be rolled out.

"MOIST" V.May.10.Pt.1 | Pride Kickoff Edition | "And If You Don't Like It, Fuck You!"

To start, it is the launch of Pride season for the gays, and I'm excited for Long Beach Pride as my first stop on the summer circuit. In that spirit of pride, we have a lot to be proud of this year. Like our continued growth and popularity, which is obviously directly attributed to you all being so loyal and supportive! Do you believe that our traffic has been averaging in the top 2% of all sites worldwide, and our relatively new venture into the world of Podcasts has had even more remarkable results, with us peaking at #56!! That rank means among all other podcasts, regardless of genre, worldwide - on the pod-O-matic broadcasting platform (which is our feed into iTunes as well)- and there are tens of thousands, only 55 have a greater following! Once you weed out the religious themed, political, talk radio, etc. etc., its hard to believe that we're at the lead of the pack for focus, in such a short time...

Regular updates are a huge piece of that interest and popularity, but even though its been almost two weeks since the last podcast I published, as of today we are maintaining at an impressive #125, which obviously will be brief, as this newly published episode is chock full of HOT summer hits and might very well get us even closer to a top 10 slot! A HUGE thanks to the generous donations from listeners and ongoing support from JustCircuit, otherwise we'd never be able to maintain the bandwidth needed to reach all of you!

I must say this current edition of "MOIST" was quite a chore to assemble! Technical difficulties abound this week as I've struggled to get my files and software all switched over to Mac, which if nothing else, has at least given me a good thorough crash course in the Mac platform in record time. Right down to a defective drive, right out of the box! LOL. But, there's lots of great music out right now, and I knew this was overdue, so with a disaster area of certain files in one place, certain programs in another, etc. etc., I committed to getting this out to you all tonight - and it has taken all night. Just when I'd finally hammered out most of the workstation bugs, now my host is having issues getting the content published, but it is up (or on its way if you don't see one or two pieces of it.), so I hope you enjoy! To the point of that re-empowerment push, take a moment to reflect back on the roots of the circuit, as it relates to YOUR life. Gradual changes over time can blur the importance of things going on around us. Or exaggerate them. When I compare things, I actually don't see a dramatic shift. By in large I think the majority of the things I love about the circuit endure unscathed - music, friends, fun, leisure, community, travel, etc.

In fact, I actually came to the realization that a lot of the things I viewed as current "atrocities" taking place around the circuit, are really nothing more than meaningless and petty misunderstandings, gossip and/or ego/greed/insecurity issues. The sad part really becomes then, that just because its petty shit, it doesn't mean its impact is petty or insignificant. It sucks even more to think about events such as the Reunion Pool Parties not taking place, when it was that very event at the old Hilton way back when, that is a gay days institution. And for what?
***(rhetorical question, btw - a lot of people probably think they have an answer or a part of it, but far too much of it is probably circumstantial or incomplete, or otherwise overcomplicated to an irreconcilable extent, to ever hope to make sense of. this is one of those rare questions on the S.A.T. where the correct answer is "not enough information exists to determine the correct answer." far too many answers would lie in the honesty of people who, good or bad, probably haven't earned the benefit of the doubt to "take their word for it.")

Disney was doomed from the day of the "no compete" concept being entertained, but one would have hoped that at least someone who entered into the agreement could have had enough foresight to say: "Hmm. I wonder if monopolies and cartels are illegal in this country, and regulated heavily by powerful branches of federal government, because they might not always be good, or fair, or benevolent?" (which by the way they never are, but if you paint a small enough picture with enough short sightedness, it might be tempting).

Isn't a huge part of the genius in a capitalist economy, that the innovation and motivation inherent in a system where there are infinite potential rewards for working hard, and that he who is willing to work the hardest and the smartest and the longest, is deserving of said rewards? We all know someone who became something out of nothing and were able to do it because they were willing to bust their ass and work really hard to get it. We probably all know someone who sits on the couch everyday and complains about never winning the lottery, too. It doesn't even occur to them that a good start might be to buy a lottery ticket and to watch the results, it should just happen, and happen for them.

Gay Days exploded into the mega-circuit event that it did, because it was a heavily competitive climate, in a robust economic period for the world, and it was taking place in a town that is fueled by the tendency for people to over-indulge in leisure and luxury, and is essentially just an ongoing "who can build the best playground" contest. Fantastic events were taking place because they HAD to take place. Each promoter knew they needed to do everything possible, and everything had to go right, or they'd fail to survive. Each year had to build on the now newly set, higher expectation of the prior year, and the venues had to be better, shows more spectacular, music more groundbreaking.

The agreement obviously cost enough money to make it worth multiple promoters time to walk away for a couple of years, so are we shocked that then there wasn't really the investment in the end product that people had come to expect? Not only does a monopoly eliminate any incentive to "try" or improve anything, because why does it have to impress if you're already marketing something to people who have no alternative? But, even if a desire to impress exists, the money to execute it disappeared with the payoff.

Of course all of this took place publicly, but the party-goers who didn't like an event in a hotel ballroom didn't have anything to say about what led to that, until they were physically in the ballroom. As long as there was something that seemed remotely plausible, being offered as a rationale, the rationale need not even be listened to. I mean, who's really buying the whole split crowd dilemma, anyway? Many of the events were so over sold that they could no longer hope to resemble somewhere you could expect to be safe or comfortable. There was room for more than one event at a time, and the fact that there were options, was precisely why the weekend was so widely appealing. If someone was obsessed with Victor Calderone and their best friend was obsessed with Peter Rauhofer, they could actually enjoy a weekend where both of their desires are being catered to. I'm all for an event away from my hotel-mates by the time Sunday usually comes around, anyway.

The logistics and complication of tickets and coordinating with friends was more troublesome than dancing in a ballroom? In actuality, yet another strength of the weekend, is those very complications. Perhaps if god forbid the fab 5 be separated for an event, they might meet more new friends and have more new and fun experiences, than would have happened with all 5 standing hip to hip in a tight circle in the same spot of the dance floor, otherwise.

My point is twofold:

I've decided to postpone indefinitely the planned launch of circuitscandal.com, because I don't want to spend time or energy on negativity. I've learned some OUTRAGEOUS things about people many out there look up to, unknowingly, but unless me sharing it has a direct positive impact or prevents an imminent threat, its a distraction from more constructive tasks.

I picked up a pen and in less than five minutes came up with the following list of personally important people, musicians, establishments, organizations or otherwise significant influences in my circuit life, each of which had then hundreds of instant memories tied to them, that came flooding back to me. For over 10 years and my entire adult life circuit events have been a substantial source of my happiness and are simply vital to my personal identity (inward and outward). Not everyone is quite the fanatic I am, so its obviously going to have varying levels of importance. But, I was walking blind and uninvolved up until now, so hopefully more and more of us wake up to things and start taking things back.

Its an indication of just how very unique each person's must lay out too. Thanks for caring enough about what I had to say to make it this far!

Nail in the Coffin for White Party Palm Springs!

The level of disgust in my mouth regarding the literal raping of the circuit community by the greed machine that is the White Party Palm Springs, as Jeffrey Sanker has defined it over the past 21 years, is quite simply impossible to articulate into words.

I've never been exactly quiet in my assessment of Jeffrey Sanker as "the greediest promoter on the circuit." In five consecutive attendances at the White Party Palm Springs I have witnessed example after example where it is quite evident this is not some mutual passion and love for music that is driving the annual production. Rarely are the public comments taken into consideration, prices are outrageous considering the overhead consists of a hotel ballroom and city subsidized public spaces. Allegedly, He gets countless tax kickbacks in gratitude for the tremendous economic surge the event brings to the local community, yet he has not once ever passed those funds on to the circuit-goer in the form of lowered ticket prices or complimentary refreshments.

You might wonder how I reached this conclusion of greed being the key motivator, so I'm obliged to share with you just some of the countless examples over the years.
Drink tickets are not a necessary component of a properly run event. If the insinuation is that there is a desire to prevent theft from staff, then why wouldn't that staff simply be supervised and fired for infractions. To then make it a concerted point to make them mandatory at all events of all sizes and then implement three different types of tickets, with varying values and applicability, it seems evident that the motivation would be largely based out of a conscious desire to see people purchase as many excess tickets as possible, that would ultimately go un-used because of the structure. It also creates an environment where the staff are not well tipped, if at all, because there is no cash quotient present at the time of serving.
I'll never forget the year it was 110 degrees at the tea dance and you better believe 5 or 6 drink tickets was only enough to get one of those tiny joke miniature evian bottles with two sips in it.
The ticket prices speak for themselves, there's just nothing else on the circuit remotely close in range, and for a "for profit" operation at that.
The pool parties, pricing, and ticket purchase process is confusing at best, but grossly overpriced and despite a higher than bargain pricing on the host hotel rooms, are not included for guests of the hotel?
The talent and production is often bare minimum necessary to a quality disproportionate to the expectation associated with ticket costs that inflated.

I'm sure if we wanted to open a public forum asking for all of your personal examples it would become out of hand.

With the gossip about Jeffrey finally trying to sell the event running rampant, it would seem prudent that logistics and operations, plus costumer interaction, would be a key priority. However, many paying customers of the main event with the Freemason's, were turned away at the door, with a simple statement of "we're closed" as early as 2AM! **************If you are one of these persons, I strongly urge you to contest the charges for your pass with your credit card companies****************** This was done arbitrarily, and without explanation or rationale. Door staff on an ego trip were simply unwilling to be bothered with caring for the best interests of a very valuable client base, by honoring even simple requests for management escalation. A simple "only paul or Jeffrey can change it" and a complete and total unwillingness to engage either of those individuals, by the door manager Brian, after repeated requests - is unacceptable and appalling, a full three hours prior to the scheduled close.

I actually arrived at the event to notice that I had left my wallet and pass in my other jeans, told the recording artist I manage and was with, Jipsta, to go ahead without me and I would run back to the hotel, only to return 10 minutes later and be told, the same story. I was not able to be present for the debut of the current number 32 Billboard dance track "Nasty Boy" in front of its largest audience to date, and door staff couldn't have cared less that I was industry, with an artist inside to represent, or even worse, did not care that I am a promotional partner for the weekend and have generated considerable value for the weekend in the form of high volume web traffic, fully dedicated podcasts, page customization, and continuous word of mouth. I literally stood outside for over an hour without one person offering an explanation, or logic, and the blatant disregard for doing the right thing for someone who clearly has been helping to promote the parties. (Might I add that I was approached in January being solicited for a partnership, not the other way around)

Meanwhile, earlier that day, two other wildly successful pool parties were occurring around town, with outstanding and new music, while the sanctioned event was nothing more than an opportunity for masterbeat to push a best of their own downloads play list. In an economic climate where people are thinking twice about flushing money down the toilet, for less than half the price, the ACE pool party in particular, was the talk of the town, without a doubt. And do you think its a coincidence that the police showed up at that event twice, hoping to find some sort of technicality or missed permit opportunity to shut it down, no doubt at the request of Sanker himself.

Considering the blaring absence of a charitable cause tied to the weekend festivities, the blatent disregard for the community, and the repeated demonstrations of ego, power, manipulation, and greed, its time to start taking back our circuit, for the love of music, community, and charity. I see the Ace party as a foreshadowing of just how simple it is to put on a better experience, and why not do so with charitable intentions while we're at it? I know that there are plenty of hotel ballrooms around town, plus even more appropriate types of venues, and I think its time to say enough is enough to this out of control trend towards us giving up the things we love about the circuit and spending more to do it. Meanwhile, we're offered less and less, including unconscionable moves like eliminating MedEvent to cut corners and improve profits.

To make the site easier for you to use, and easier for me to keep up to date, I have switched from .RAR to more advanced archiving/bundling capabilities available from 7zip. This will only apply to files you are used to seeing as .RAR, they will now have a file extension of .7z or .exe. Any other types of files you are used to seeing will remain the same. This decision is primarily in response to the significant increase in technical questions and lower download figures, of the .RAR updates versus podcasts or dj featurettes. 7 zip will make it easier for users with lower proficiency in technical computer skills to still enjoy individual tracks. Many requests for the mp3's linked by themselves have been received, but that is simply not realistic for the level of time it consumes and online storage needed. Those who do not own a program like winRar, or know how to use it, can now still enjoy these periodic updates with ease. The benefit to 7zip is the ability to create an archive similar to a .RAR, however the end file is formatted as a "self-extracting" program that automatically un-bundles the songs and asks where they should be saved on your hard drive, without further iinteraction or software. [NOTE: The archive is capable of performing this task automatically because it is essentially a program that is carrying out the steps instead of you. Because .exe files are capable of doing things on their own, you will be asked for added permission when opening these types of files from us. We will never send spam, spyware or viruses and certainly would never mislead or misrepresent what a file and its contents consist of, but we still recommend having up to date security tools in place to ensure and that you use Firefox as your browser. There's some little conference going on in Miami this weekend, maybe you've heard of it, it's called The Winter Music Conference? No, not ringing any bells? The largest and most diverse, ongoing and incredible celebration of dance/house/electronica music in the world for the past 25 years?! So, I thought you might want to get your ear on some of the hot new music being unveiled there, even if you can't be there in person.

My favorite European DJ (tied with Steve Lawler), Pete Tong did his weekly show for Radio 1 in the UK, straight from Space Night Club in Miami. This is the two hour set, just hours later than its actual occurrence!

Final Thoughts & Tunes Re: Winter Party 2010

So, if you follow my messages (which you obviously do, because you're reading this), you'd probably find it surprising to hear that I attended the Peter Rauhofer event @ Mansion here in South Beach, last night - during the Winter Party weekend. You'd find this shocking because I've so steadfastly protested the existence of any event which would, on the surface, seem to detract monies from what seems to be such a noble cause.

On the basis of this principal, I am entirely steadfast, that it's unfortunate that profiteering exists and that we don't live in a perfect world where charity reigns supreme. The simple fact of the matter is, as it turns out, that there are two possible responses to this type of dilemma, from the standpoint of the charitable organization.

1. Throw a better event, with better talent, more competitive pricing and allign yourself with the strongest support network of partners and sponsors so that you are either unaffected by the challenging event or you discourage them from continuing it in the future, or
2. Alienate your strongest supporters, enter into deceptive marketing practices, and guilt people into thinking they have no choice of where to go (which I too was a victim of falling for) and in the end succeed in nothing other than making your own event seem like a haven for negativity and totally distracting from the joys of the circuit, the rewards we seek for our community involvement.

Being a responsible party-goer, having already attended multiple events on the previous four consecutive days, I concertedly decided to come home from the Beach Party (which was a blast by the way! the entire weekend was filled with the greatest crowd and energy and largely made anything else going on secondary to its overpowering happiness) and sleep, knowing I wanted to attend the three remaining parties with sufficient energy and excitement. Since these parties spanned a time-frame of 9PM Sunday to 2AM Tuesday, I consciously decided to arrive at "Orbit" @ 3:30AM Monday Morning, from where I would move over to "Aftermath" @ 6:00AM, and last as long as I could between then and the 4:00PM close. I'd have a chance for a disco nap after that and then finish off the weekend with the closing party on Monday night.

Sounds reasonable, even extremely well thought out, right? We're always told to "party safely and responsibly," after all. Well, when I arrived as planned, I was told that "comp admission ended at 3:00AM." In actuality, my pass was not a "comp" pass, it was a Partner pass. It was not something free that I was lucky to have as a privilege, it was their end of a contractual agreement from which they had already collected thousands of dollars worth of value, in the form of advertising, promotional material, giveaways, etc. Additionally, there was never any communication of any type of time restriction, when it comes to arrival time, for any of the events.

Ultimately, despite attempts to escalate and requests for rationale, I was not offered any. When I reminded them of my adamant support of the event in the face of competition and expressed my confusion with the adoption of such a policy, arbitrarily and without notice, they were indifferent. I was told the value of the previously received contributions, was no longer applicable to that event, and that for the remaining 2 hours of that party, I would be admitted for nothing short of the $85 door cost of admission. I asked why they would honestly care to see me walk away to go to another event, and they didn't care to offer any substantial attempt at a response.

This is simply one of those unfathomable occurrences in life, that is best to not even attempt to understand or make sense of, because it doesn't make any sense. I don't know very many people that went to the "official" event, even in my own desires to be personally present and report back as media, I am unable. What I can say is that when I arrived at Mansion I was welcomed into an overwhelmingly uplifting and fun, lively, energetic crowd, that filled the entire club, including balcony, and was some of the best music of the weekend, bar-none.

It just makes the whole idea of Winter Party being victimized, a lot harder of a notion to swallow. I'll continue to support Winter Party, because just like 24 hours ago before these things took place, I continue to believe in the mission of what they set out to accomplish. However, there can be no greater reminder that just because something is charity, doesn't mean it is unaffected by politics, greed, manipulation and collusion.

At the end of the day, we all need to reach our own conclusions about people and things, and those conclusions might not always be ones we'd have hoped for in a perfect world. This Winter Party weekend was AMAZING and fun and goes down as some of my best life memories to date. As always, music is my key passion and motivator, not distantly followed by the incredible sense of community that the circuit carries.

Let's just constantly remind ourselves to challenge ourselves, our beliefs, and the things we know to be right in the world, and stay true and genuine for the good of the community at large, not for the luxuries of the few.

Hopefully you are aware that Circuit Cadence is a big supporter of any circuit party, but even so - our heart is where the circuit was culled: charity. So it should come as no surprise that we're thrilled to be an official media partner with the Winter Party Festival this year! Since we don't maintain a traditional email list, I've created another page to get you all the hot information regarding this year's festival! Not only does it include the standard fare email blast, but we're taking the opportunity to say "FUCK OFF" to bullshit petty drama queens and tell them to get off the circuit, while we're at it!

The page is just now live, within minutes ago, for the first time, and as soon as you arrive you'll first see our plea that anyone attending with us this year, DO NOT attend the Peter Rauhofer event. I love him as a DJ, in fact - years ago, at Mansion (might have been Level back then), Peter spinning as part of the official Winter Party events, was where I first heard him live and fell in love with his sound. But come on, now opting not to spin with the festival (assuming he'd be invited, which I believe he would) to instead prey on charity? Go the fuck back to Austria with that bullshit! Let me guess, not enough to already be thankful for with your success and celebrity, so better make sure people who can't afford HIV meds or food, don't get that little bit either? That's a great article -----, thanks for sharing! I'm not sure how I missed, it, buried amongst my own heap of stuff at the moment I guess...

It was very well written and notably unbiased, which is a HUGE factor in me granting that type of piece any inkling of credibility, as soon as I sense even a slight bias, I tend to ditch-out and presume it to be misleading.

That said, having had PR and marketing education in my background, this is a classic stance and really the only possible one, for Rauhofer to take - and to not sound like a total schmuck. Unfortunately, while he has this appearance of Scandal and vendettas on his side for Winter Party, he's been doing this for a long time against White Party Miami, and this strategy is a simple cookie cutter of that. No matter what circumstances lead to the inability to work together, for me there is simply no way of doing the math at the end, and determining that its okay to harm a charitable event. If it isn't directly targeted at leeching attendees who are visiting explicitly for Winter Party, then why wouldn't he just hold it another weekend?

I find it very hard to believe this is a matter of circumstance and poor appearances - he is quite calculatingly intent on "proving a point" or stroking his own ego, that whether he ultimately succeeds or loses, ends up with him fattening his bank account at the direct cost of community organizations that do real good. I am the first one to raise issue with some of the practices taking place by the Task Force, as you can see on that same page where I hold them to task. However, there's no way to "punish" them, without punishing the charities that they ultimately benefit - they wouldn't exist if not for those charities.

If Peter is truly a nice guy, he will donate 100% of proceeds to a Task Force "competitor" community service charity. I fear that would be a cold day in Hell, however...

YOU WON'T FIND THIS SET ANYWHERE ELSE, BUT CIRCUIT CADENCE!

Not that it needed it, but this brand new Mix Set by DJ Bryan Reyes seems to signify the figurative "nail in the coffin" for me, when it comes to evaluating the Saturday night party "option" for this weekend's spectacular New Year's circuit celebration in LA!

It's been a long time since L.A. has had a series of parties that could begin to resemble the typical "circuit weekend" format party-goers have come to identify with/expect. With L.A. Pride perennially falling in the shadow of Gay Days and White Party Palm Springs and San Diego Pride doing more to draw the WeHo Boys away from town for "local" events that could satisfy such a huge market, it would seem that New Year's falling on a weekend this year has succeeded in cutting through all that baggage to unravel an impressive sequence of parties that can rival any of the other great weekends of the year.

The same thigns that have always plagued the L.A. circuit still exist, like the presence of multiple promoters across competing events, but for once it seems to be having a much more cathartic effect than a cannabilizing one. There have been grumblings about the same ole manipulative bullshit from some promoters, bourne out of oddities in the ticket sales process for the main event, but by in large the party-boys themselves seem to be far too focused on enjoying themselves than letting any promoter-drama distract them year!


One such personal example is that I ultimately had to ban a promoter from our fan page because he wanted to repetitiously post items to the news feed after blocking me from viewing them. It wasn't worth some big ordeal on my part, one that ultimately just puts him in a position of feeling more important than he is and drawing more attention to his events at the end of the day, so a one-click ban and all remains quiet on the Western front, so to speak. I figure my audience is way to smart to be bothered by phony games, and its not like my opinion and endorsed events haven't been made abundantly clear up to this point!


That said, maybe becuse I've been surrounded by so much fantastic music lately, that the therapeutic and meditative benefits of such, have centered me. After listening to this set, you tell me if there's much of anything you could have done to make it better. I felt like it was a programming style uncannily similar to one I would have done myself. Alll the more anxious to hear Bryan live for my first time, on Saturday. Hope to see you there!!!

So, New Year's Eve in Los Angeles is going to be an incredible experience this year! The legendary Mayan Theatre is my personal favorite circuit venue and never disappoints, so add to that the 10th Anniversary of Masterbeat's NYE Celebration, the musical talents of Ralphi & Abel (as Rosabel) and further consider the jaw-dropping spectacle that is the Audio-Video Countdown show (which I'm particularly excited for since this year's music was put together by good friends and favorite remixers), and you've got all the makings of a historic event! And I didn't even mention the throngs of hot men, by the thousands, or the countless other factors that make the Mayan so special. It's a given, NYE is: THE MAYAN!

But once the party is started on a Thursday, who's going to want it to stop? We've got a whole weekend to turn into a party! There will be tons of out of towners visiting, and there are lots of events going on. So here's my personal itinerary/breakdown:



Question #1: Where should we go after the Mayan is over? I've still got some dance in me!

Well there are two major choices, the affiliated event is as always @ Arena and the DJ this year is Manny Lehman. But, luckily for me there is a more appealing option (in my humble opinion): Scandal is throwing a special after hours event with none other than the great DJ/Remixer/Producer: ALEXANDER! An LA favorite and rising circuit superstar (Congratulations on being booked for Winter Party's Saturday Night event!). I personally find the Arena venue very unintimate and cold and despite great memory's in my circuit past of great Manny events, his inability to impress in recent years leaves me unexcited. Then the substantially higher ticket price for that event just seems to seal the deal for me.



Question #2: What about Friday and Saturday Nights, then?


Friday is a bit of a gimme, since there is essectially just the one event, also a Masterbeat affiliated event, Brett Henrichsen will spin @ the Avalon in Hollywood. If you make it through NYE and after hours and haven't fallen on your face by Friday night, then this is the place to be!

Saturday presents another great head to head, though. Paulo will be spinning @ The Factory in West Hollywood while Bryan Reyes makes his LA debut @ Friction in Silver Lake. If you are reading this then you obviously frequent the site, so it should come as no surprise that Bryan is my choice in this matchup. Paulo is great, but unfortunately being spoiled as I am, he spins quite often here in LA. Conversely, Bryan puts out more of the "circuit" style remixes of the hottest new tracks on a consistent basis than almost anyone, and I'm excited to hear live, the sounds so commonly playing on the iPods of circuit boys across the world!There's always talk of DJ styles, be it "bubble gum," "tribal," "dark," etc., but remember what music was like in the early 2000's on the circuit? I call that sound simply: CIRCUIT. Bryan embodies that sound to a T and I'm excited to hear the music old and new that has that same happy, hard, vocal and deep energy that is the root of my falling in love with the circuit!

So, those are my two cents, for what they're worth. No matter what you happen to be doing this coming New Year's, I wish you a happy and safe one! Hopefully we can share a dance! XO

Sometimes that permission never comes, and even if it doesn, it is generally so delayed that any memory of, or interest in, the song is long gone.

SMoving forward, every once in a while I will switch formats and present an edition of "MOIST" or re-"MOIST"-urized, that will be a continuous mix-set, instead of seperate files. This will enable me to get you the private remixes while they are still relevant, but to do so while honoring any conditions the DJ or label may stipulate inn advance. In general, widespread distribution is dismissed as a concern because mixsets are difficult to extrapolate individual songs from, and also because of their size, they are of a lower quality bitrate.

Reception to the mixed sets so far has been surprisingly great, with way more downloaders than typical of the compilation sets of the past. Hopefully they will become more and more enjoyable for you as well, as I continue to try to figure out what the hell I'm doing.

I was "dancing" in the dark w/ Alejandro when we saw a Monster taking pictures with his Telephone

It was bound to happen, with over 11,000 songs in my iTunes currently and the rate at which I am constantly going through files to review tracks and delete duplicates and garbage, I was updating my tags too quickly and mislabeled Monster in that last set, which a lot of you caught. I updated the sites pretty quickly so hopefully no one is too confused over it. Everything else was right, including the remixer and such, just it was titled wrong.

As promised, here is the second installment of "MOIST" right away. As I mentioned its a bit of a departure from textbook circuit sound, but I think you'll enjoy it nonetheless, as there are some great tracks.

"MOIST" V.Dec.09.Pt.1 | "Birthday Festivus 4 The Bestivus!"

First off, my apologies for being absent from any and all signs of life the past couple of weeks. Between the holiday, travel, White Party, and being sick, I've purposefully kept my laptop at an arm's length - and I won't lie - it was a nice respite!

Of course, with setting aside of tasks, comes accumulation of tasks - so now I'm a bit buried in emails and catch-up in general, and I haven't even begun to determine how I'm going to proceed with my Windows 7 upgrade in the midst of it all. But music reigns supreme!

I am excited that my birthday month has already been brimming with music, since that accumulation of work has also meant an accumulation of fun goodies to share with you all. Right away the list was too long, so I decided to do two parts back to back, with this being the first.

True to the "MOIST" standard, this is what you'd come to expect - the newest and hottest tracks you can look forward to invading dance floors around the circuit in the coming weeks and months. The second list will be ready tonight or tomorrow, and is a lot more of a traditional "House" sound than circuit per se, but there are some HOT tracks that I couldn't go without sharing with those who have been asking for it.

Plus, next week I'll be sending some incredible remixes of previously shared tracks that have since had exceptionally better remixes surface, which you can keep an eye out for as: re"MOIST"urize V.Dec.09.

PS - My apologies if you were one of the persons who had difficulties downloading songs from my host in the past couple of days. Because I was not regularly online and monitoring everything, the share feature had defaulted back off and I wasn't at the ready to catch it right away. I threw this together this morning because I'm so excited to hear my favorite DJ, Tony Moran, twice this week! First at Scandal in Hollywood on Wednesday, then at the White Party in Miami for the main event! This is a great set of songs, and I had to leave a ton off. Look at the significance in the songs he's produced and name one DJ that's been as relevant as Tony in the past decade. Maybe for brief spurts, and maybe he hasn't demanded the same type of diva fanfare as some of his peers, but he is constantly improving, endlessly innovating, and unfailingly reliable. This is a DJ!!!

It's all about the White Parties right now. The 25th Anniversary of the world's largest AIDS fundraiser is next week in Miami and this spring's White Party in Palm Springs has officially announced its risky and drastic reformatting to the jubilation of some and the discontent of others.

Now, if you haven't heard - The White Party Palm Springs in April is hardly recognizable in contrast to prior years which saw a well developed formula executed similarly each year. Gone are the Rosabel closing party, the familiar DJs doing the familiar events, and the comfort of knowing what you're getting yourself into each event. In are the international DJ's: The Freemason's, Moto Blanco, and Chus & Ceballos. Also, in an effort to build up a commonly dismissed Friday night event, Abel is opening up the main portion of the weekend with the Friday underwear party.

Is all of that good or bad?

Well, clearly its both. For every person excited by change and looking forward to new experiences and new sounds by new artists and the new energy, there's going to be those that complain about fixing something that wasn't necessarily broken. Thats the thing, you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. WPPS is not exactly the most economical ticket on the circuit, and its not for charity, so you can see why there's a high expectation that every year present a "wow." Last year I loved the fact that Lady Gaga was announced in advance rather than the games of rumor of prior years, and there were other rooms with standard music while she was on stage, but those queens damned if they didn't complain about her being on stage for too long.

It remains to be seen if the reputations and expectations of these international DJs will boost attendance and whether they can live up to the hype, but for anyone excited to hear something new and fresh I think the potential is quite astounding!
