The Circuit’s Newest Frontier Returns the Favor, Introduces America to a Sensation of Their Own

By John Longo

Without question, the region seeing the biggest growth in circuit popularity is Asia! What all started in 2001 as 1500 gay men and lesbians congregating in Singapore for a now legendary series of parties known as NATION, has developed into the world’s most diverse, multicultural and fastest evolving "pink" market. That initial event paved the way for what is now credited as the regional inspiration for the transformation of the gay community into the circuit force it is today.

GCircuit and Mighty Asia, two new mega-event promoters which have emerged since 2007, have evolved the NATION model (which from its more modest beginnings accrued staggering crowds of 8,000 revelers, at its peak) and continue to provide LGBT party-goers the same opportunities to experience live sets from music icons such as Offer Nissim, Edson Pride, Paulo plus a host of other top international DJs.

"We mustn’t forget that we’ve got a long way to go in terms of recognizing LGBT rights in the region," warns Stuart Koe from Fridae.com (Asia’s leading gay web portal and organizer of NATION), "so in a sense I think the circuit parties are a release valve for many gay men and lesbians who want to vent their frustrations and feel free within their own community."

It makes sense that among this innovation and entrepreneurial emergence of, and within, the Asian circuit market, the stage has been set for the advancement of "home-grown" Asian DJ talent as well. DJs such as Big Kid, Louis T, Shigeki and Princess Ann are in high demand having successfully crafted their signature styles and cultivated their fanbase throughout Asia. Add to that the continued globalization of the world, particularly via social media networks like Facebook, and it was simply a matter of time before the West developed a taste for experiencing some of those unique, fresh sounds, on a domestic stage.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting DJ Big Kid in person, at Scandal’s Labor Day event in Los Angeles, and further enjoyed the chance to share dance floor real estate at the Mayan later in the weekend. Thanks to Facebook I was already knowledgeable of his talents, but it is always great to see in person that an artist is as gracious and genuine a person as you'd hope. It’s no surprise then that he has spent the better part of the past month in preparation for his official American debut! Big Kid has been announced as the headline act at the historic EndUp in San Francisco, on October 24th, joining the ranks of an impressive roster of the circuit's best DJs who have spun that space over the years before him.
Thanks to the generosity of Big Kid himself, the hard work of his manager, and the overwhelming support of my friend Jesse Perry of WeHoParty, it is incredibly exciting to announce yet another CirCuitCadenCe.Com & WeHoParty collaboration...

We bring you Big Kid’s brand new mix-set, here and ONLY here!

Then, this morning to the home page of the website, a phenomenal collection of Offer Nissim's 2009 remixes, although in a confusing curve ball, it includes Peter's version of Whitney's debut track from the new album, rather than the controversial Offer Nissim version that made waves this summer!

We're excited to share another great mix-set with you this week, but you'll have to keep a close eye. Trust me, you'll want to - its one of the world's rising circuit sensations, and CirCuitCadenCe.Com has the EXCLUSIVE!!!!

MOIST V.Sep.09.Pt.3 SD2LA

First off - if you have recently written me a facebook message, I am so sorry! I am not ignoring you - and I WILL respond to EVERYONE as soon as I get the opportunity, but I have hundreds of unread messages & am simply unable to keep up the past few weeks.

I know its been a little longer than we've been accustomed to for music as well, but never fear - the wait has ended: I've put together some fun new tracks, some tracks that have been popular for a good part of the summer already, and then a few of those timeless anthems sprinkled about as well. Nothing too earth-shattering this round, but I've been having a lot of fun with what has become the soundtrack to my moving process!

Yep, I am knee deep in the re-location process, as I pack my shit in the theoretical paradise that is San Diego, and head permanently to the land of LA LA (which I think everyone knows isn't a paradise in the traditional sense, no matter how nice it looks when you're watching the Hills or the Kardashians!).

I think most of the people around me would tell you it was inevitable, but as always I just let things materialize in their own way. I wasn't going to wait around and waste time in a closed chapter, but I wasn't going to rush nature either. Lately though, the signs were all right in my face and I stared right back letting the signs know "Don't get loud with me, DO NOT GET LOUD WITH ME!"

Long story short, between finding a place to live and all of those other logistical elements, I've been constrained from just living in my headphones like normal. Hopefully you'll enjoy this set, the Mariah song didn't do it for me for the longest time, but when I found out in July that it was about Eminem, all the sudden it was much more fun to relate with. When love takes over needs to retire soon, before we ruin it, but my friend Jeffrey D (Minneapolis DJ) was so excited with this particular remix I thought it was worthy. Then I think you'll have a flashback or two when you get to the end, I know those songs hold weight with me.

Have a great weekend and HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRACIE & DJ!!!! Hopefully by the time you read this it will be tomorrow and you'll have already enjoyed a night out with me at Friction for DJ Alexander & MND Event's LA Birthday Bash for Gracie! XOXO

(by the way, new download/player system I'm trying, its really cool - it plays all the tracks, just click the blue arrow to get a dropdown to download, or skip to the next track. Its a LOT easier, so hopefully you guys like it. Let me know what you think. Of course, click the cover art if you just want the .RAR folder and save yourself the hassle.)

SPECIAL EDITION: REWINDING 2 A "DRY" TIME, B4 "MOIST"

It wasn't even a full year ago that the "MOIST" we're all familiar with was actually the far too long "Guaranteed to Make You 'MOIST.'" It was late November 2008 and I was only just registering for a Facebook account! Sure, I'd been making CD's in a similar format for friends in Minneapolis since years prior, but this was the start of something I had no idea was going where it has!

I had just a week or two prior had the thrill of my first Madonna concert (which was here in San Diego at Petco Park) and my bestest of friends in MN were just arriving in Miami for Thanksgiving weekend to catch her final show on the American segment, at Dolphin's Stadium. I knew they'd have "true blue" on repeat all weekend, but I figured I'd send them a care package with a CD the way I always used to.

Here's what came out, it is officially the very first "MOIST," unedited, altered, updated, or otherwise effected. You might notice the size of the audience for that first attempt was pretty select, many of the tracks had little more than 20 downloads, total, over these past 10 months. Those that did well will be obvious, so the download numbers become less relevant since people were likely just stumbling across a search result rather than actually seeking out this forum as a much needed and under supplied ACCESS to what it is our little niche community likes to listen to. It's kind of cool to see!

Go to the homepage for the entire list and to download, by clicking here. To preview the tracks simply press play in the following media player.

Um, wow... Tribal Much?! Download Labor LA's Hottest Weekend Tracks!

So I don't think its a stretch to say this past weekend in LA was HEAVILY tribal! Which, also shouldn't come as much of a surprise when you take a look at the DJ names being featured, the likes of Paulo, Ana Paula, Isaac Escalante & Alexander and a crowd hungry for the deep and overwhelming beats and enchanting aura I have always associated with a "pots and pans" style of rhythm and energy that is TRIBAL.

I had SOOO much fun dancing to this sub-genre of dance this weekend, that I just couldn't resist the urge to keep the weekend going into Monday night! I'm about to hit the road back home to San Diego, so at the moment its being posted solely as the bundled .rar folder inclusive of all the songs. Check back tomorrow for the individual tracks and embedded player(s) as well. You might recognize some of the names of these tracks, but I know if you were @ Scandal @ The Music Box and/or Hard Labor @ The Mayan this weekend, you'll recognize the tracks or at the very least enjoy the continuation of the dominant "theme" for the weekend I LOVED!

Track List ( download @ http://www.circuitcadence.com ):

1. David Guetta Ft. Tara McDonald - Delirious (Mor Avrahami Intro Full Mix)

2. Allan Natal feat Joe Welch - Total Eclipse of the Heart (Shayne B's Soundsystems Reconstruction)

3. Vanessa Hudgens - Come Back To Me (Chris Cox Club Mix)

4. Deadmau5 vs Melleefresh - Attention Whore (Zoltan Kontes and Jerome Robins Bootylicious Mix)

5. Blow Up - Let Me See You Underwear (Danny Verde Remix)

6. Isaac Escalante - Zambomba (Original Mix)

7. Dj Paulo Ft Lula - Twilo (Augusto Baeza Oh,Yeah Mash)

8. J Velarde, Luque, Vitti - Fuck Me Rich (Original Mix)

9. The Tamperer Feat. Maya - Feel It (Breno Barreto Private '09)

10. Tiesto pres. Alllure Feat. Juliete Thompson - Somewhere Inside Of Me (Love Groove Private Mix)

11. Ronen Mizrahi Feat. Einna - Muzzik (Original Club Mix)

12. Escape - Escape (Scummy Vocal Remix)

13. Red Carpet - Alright (Love Groove Almost Dub)

FINAL THOUGHT:
It was alarming to be confronted by a friend this weekend who inquired of me: "Is it true you were talking shit about [ed: so and so on so and so's] facebook wall?" The exaggerated topic of "shit talking" was actually my comment in response to a promoter's status update re: a DJ that had been booked for an upcoming event. In that comment I was sharing my opinion that I thought the named booking was, at worst - predictable and unimaginative - especially in a context of recent contributions to music.

Since I have frequently posted similar dialogue (i.e., my opinion) in the opposite fashion - which is to say thank you for exposing me to a new talent I'd never previously heard and very much enjoyed, it did not strike me as odd to come to the realization that opinions are just that, and are sooner or later going to not always be in-line with everyone at all times. Perhaps I took it for granted that people either don't know who I am and therefore wouldn't put weight in the statement, or that they know who I am and know my candor and honesty and that I'm extremely reasonable in my statements. Regardless of opinion, I have never once insinuated that my opinion is the right one or even gone so far as to encourage persons not to attend a particular appearance.

I think its also outrageous to consider the notion that accountability and integrity don't matter or shouldn't be discussed. From the countless and often emotional positive feedback I've received I haven't once been confronted with an instance where my statements were somehow disingenuous or malevolent. In fact, I trust that the success of this venture might indicate that I've demonstrated an ongoing fulfillment of unbiased and well-selected content and opinion?

This comment was weeks ago and totally in passing, I barely even remember it, and evidently it was worthy of conversation on at least a few occasions (which is hilariously silly, by the way). All I would ask of the membership is that if ever you doubt the genuine and sincere actions or statements of myself or the site in general, that you call me out right away. I'll be accountable for myself, I think its perhaps more frightening to others, however - that they might need to be accountable for themselves as well? Or do they? Who am I to say? Why does it even matter? It really DOESN'T have to be so much work to have fun!!!! This weekend's incredible events proved that, thanks and love!

Happy Labor Day! Here Are The Music Downloads To Make It HOT!

So, in honor of labor, we're trying not to work TOO hard this weekend, but alas there are many things to tend to always. If you're in LA like I am, you're revelling in the coming and going from various pool parties at the moment, and you're excitement continues to build for tonight's highly anticipated and hands down favorite Labor Day event: Scandal. And why not make Scandal even more salacious by throwing in an underwear theme? The music from Paulo and Alexander will ensure there is plenty of warmth despite the near naked attire of most of the boys. I look forward to seeing everyone out tonight and tomorrow at the Tea Dance and Closing Parties!

Well it is a new month, and new season approaching, so all of the many August distributions have been moved to their own page on the sidebar of the website [ http://www.circuitcadence.com ], which gives us lots of freed up space for the coming month. You'll still see the anniversary edition MOIST mix-set, since it continues to attract high download volumes. If you hadn't noticed, there's a poll on the home page as well, down toward the bottom.

New this month I'm trying out a great new embedded player for the individual tracks, take a look and see how you like it. If you don't, tell me! The other new section is our charity feature spotlight, which will actually appear at the header of every page within the site. Moving forward we'll select a non-profit circuit party/festival that upholds the true values the circuit was formed upon, on a quarterly/seasonal basis - and showcase them with that highly visible placement - to encourage and support their sustained success down the road ahead. Our first choice is appropriately the White Party Week as they celebrate their 25th Anniversary this fall!

MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC!!

So, I've been sending distributions more frequently, which has received a very positive response, but I am going to begin tempering that a bit out of concern that the product might become diluted. I'd like to continue providing play lists that are outstanding start to finish and not begin to resemble a volume and mass machine that isn't really in tune with what is actually a hot find. That said, and hand in hand with the "work less on Labor Day" notion, this week I've put together the BEST DJ mix-sets available, nicely bundled for your convenience, right on the home page! I am not particularly fond of mix-sets, personally, as they tend to have a hard time retaining my intrigue and/or a single track I am averse to will intrude right in the middle of a set. Since I know my own pain, I've taken extra care to make sure I only put the cream of the crop up for consumption as part of your CirCuit CadenCe diet. Get ready to be blown away by new sets from:

DJ ALLAN NATAL - LEAVING WORLDS BEHIND

DJ JAMES ANTHONY - LIVE @ THE ROXY 8/29
(By the way, James will be making his LA debut on 10/3 @ Friction, the weekly circuit event @ MJs from MNDEvents!)

DJ MICHAEL TANK - EVERYBODY SHAKE THAT SOUND

DJ JUNIOR VASQUEZ @ PACHA NYC #7

DJ LOUIS T - AUGUST MIGHTY MIX
